When Should You Wear Your Retainer?
The next step is easy. You’ll want to wear your retainer all the time at first, unless the orthodontist tells you otherwise. It is totally normal to find it a little tricky to speak clearly for the first day or two. We recommend practicing by reading or singing out loud, it’s a great way to get used to it faster. From there, we’ll move into a routine that better fits your lifestyle. Don't forget to bring it with you to your regular orthodontic appointments so we can make sure the fit is still perfect.
How Do You Keep Your Retainer Safe?
Life happens, and retainers can become lost or broken over time. But because retainers are personalized and can be expensive to replace, it’s best to keep them protected. When it’s not in your mouth, it should always be in its case. Most retainers are lost in school lunchrooms or restaurants when they’re wrapped in a napkin by mistake. Also, keep them away from pets, dogs especially love to chew on them! If you do happen to misplace or break yours, give us a call right away.
What Is The Best Way To Clean Your Retainer?
Keeping your retainer fresh is a simple part of life after treatment. Just use your toothbrush and toothpaste with warm, not hot, water once a day. This removes plaque and keeps it smelling clean. Avoid hot water, hot car dashboards, or the washing machine, as high heat can warp the shape of the plastic.

Both of my boys received their braces and ortho treatment from Dr. Doshi. She and her staff are wonderful people. I've had my share of medical billing issues and never, not once in nearly half a century, has ANY medical provider worked on my behalf to get billing and insurance corrected unless it was for their own greedy interests. My group insurance denied a claim for my younger son's braces. It required over a year of battles, phone calls, lawyers, and involvement with both the CA and WI commissioners of insurance. Throughout it all the caring and wonderful people in Dr. Doshi's office were patient, supporting, and unbeknownst to me, fighting on MY BEHALF behind the scenes. I really can't say enough how much this means to me. The insurance was eventually forced to pay up and Greater Madison Orthodontics belatedly received their well earned payments for covered services rendered. Good, honest, caring people providing excellent orthodontics is what you will find here.
Dr. Doshi and her team delivered an exceptional experience for my daughter. They got to know her personally, spoke to her and I about what to expect, and were direct about what she needed to do to take better care of her teeth. It’s clear they have a great culture at GMO and their people enjoy what they do, which shines through with their patients.
