It is totally normal to find it a little tricky to speak clearly for the first day or two. We recommend practicing by reading or singing out loud, it’s a great way to get used to it faster. From there, we’ll move into a routine that better fits your lifestyle. Don't forget to bring it with you to your regular orthodontic appointments so we can make sure the fit is still perfect.

Life happens, and retainers can become lost or broken over time. But because retainers are personalized and can be expensive to replace, it’s best to keep them protected. When it’s not in your mouth, it should always be in its case. Most retainers are lost in school lunchrooms or restaurants when they’re wrapped in a napkin by mistake. Also, keep them away from pets, dogs especially love to chew on them! If you do happen to misplace or break yours, give us a call right away.

Keeping your retainer fresh is a simple part of life after treatment. Just use your toothbrush and toothpaste with warm, not hot, water once a day. This removes plaque and keeps it smelling clean. Avoid hot water, hot car dashboards, or the washing machine, as high heat can warp the shape of the plastic.
